To advance scientific research and discipline development in mathematics and image processing, and to strengthen cooperation and communication between experts and scholars domestically and internationally, the Union of Mathematical Imaging Annual Academic Conference 2024 was successfully held at Zhejiang Normal University from April 12-14. The event was co-hosted by Zhejiang Normal University and the Union of Mathematical Imaging, and organized by the College of Mathematical Medicine. More than 300 experts, scholars, and young researchers from prestigious institutions around the world participated, including notable figures such as Fan Yubo, former President of the Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering and professor at Beihang University; Chen Zhiqiang, Vice President of the Chinese Society for Stereology and professor at Tsinghua University; and Wan Suiren, former Director of the Biomedical Engineering Education Committee of Higher Education Institutions of the Ministry of Education and professor at Southeast University. Additionally, Zhang Jian, Mayor of Jinhua; Lin Yigang, Vice President of Zhejiang Normal University; and Kong Dexing, President of the Union of Mathematical Imaging, attended and addressed the event.

In the conference keynote speech session, several distinguished professors delivered speeches on a range of topics: Fan Yubo from Beihang University presented “Intelligent Rehabilitation: Opportunities, Challenges, and the Future,” Chen Yunmei from the University of Florida presented “A Learned Alternating Minimization Algorithm for Dual-Domain Sparse-View CT Reconstruction,” Chen Zhiqiang from Tsinghua University presented “X-Ray CT Imaging and Its Application in Security Screening,” Shen Dinggang from ShanghaiTech University presented “The Future of Medical Diagnostics: Integrating Ultrasound, Radiology, and Textual Data through Foundation AI,” Sun Jian from Xi'an Jiaotong University presented “Optimal Transmission Theory and Methods for Artificial Intelligence Generation and Universalization,” and Li Chunming from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China presented “Intelligent Interactive Segmentation and Its Applications.” These presentations highlighted the latest achievements and new application models in the field of mathematical image processing.

Five parallel sub-conferences took place concurrently during this event, bringing together experts and scholars from hundreds of universities and research institutes both domestically and internationally. The sub-conferences focused on key themes, including “Mathematical Theory and Methods of Image Processing,” “Theory, Algorithms, and Applications of Medical Imaging Technology,” “Intelligent Analysis and Applications of Multimodal Medical Data,” “Brain Science and Human-Computer Interaction Technology,” and “Mathematical Methods of Image Analysis and Processing.” A total of 63 lectures were delivered, highlighting the latest advancements and research in these fields.
