2023-07-23

In July 2023, a dedicated “Smart Medical Service” summer social practice team from the College of Mathematical Medicine set out on a mission to Jingning She Autonomous County, a historically significant revolutionary county in Southwest Zhejiang Province. Leveraging their unique expertise in mathematics and medical sciences, the team immersed themselves in grassroots communities, conducting field visits and research. Their objective was to gain insights into the evolving landscape of healthcare services in an increasingly prosperous society and contribute to the advancement of grassroots healthcare.

The team, under the theme Exploring the Key of Healthcare Improvement in Jingning She Autonomous County, collaborated with hospitals, local neighborhoods, and administrative authorities. They ventured into 10 villages and townships, visited 2 hospitals, and explored 3 cultural relics exhibition halls. Their approach involved comprehensive investigations, including questionnaire surveys and interactions with local residents. With a proactive commitment to the establishment of the Common Wealth Demonstration Zone, the team aimed to augment the concept of Common Prosperity” with a focus on healthcare enhancement.

They championed this cause through practical actions, emphasizing the importance of preventive healthcare over curative measures. The team organized health education campaigns and offered voluntary medical examinations. These initiatives covered prevalent conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and chronic diseases. The team educated local residents on health-related knowledge, fostering an understanding of the importance of sound dietary habits during summer and proper use of medicines. Their goal was to instill a mindset that prioritizes prevention over treatment, elevate their awareness of self-care, enhance their understanding of diseases, and nurture a heightened sense of responsibility for their own well-being.

In addition, the team partnered with the Jingning County People's Hospital Integrated Healthcare Community Dongkeng Hospital to provide free medical examinations for local residents.

During the examination sessions, the dedicated team members assisted doctors from Dongkeng Hospital in conducting comprehensive health checkups. To further elevate the quality of healthcare services, the team brought along AI-assisted diagnostic equipment, working closely with local doctors to offer thyroid nodule screenings. After nearly five hours of diligent work, the joint volunteer medical checkup initiative successfully provided regular medical checkups to 88 residents of Yangxie Village, with over 40 individuals receiving thyroid nodule screenings. These efforts earned high praise from the local community.
